Leadership & Teams

Producer: Johanna Rothman
Assistant: Mike Griffiths

Inside the Agile community, there is considerable discussion about whether or not people who practice agile methods need leaders. Outside the strictly Agile community, people still differentiate management and leadership. If we believe in self-organizing teams, do we need managers? If so, what do they do?

Leaders make the hard decisions - whether those leaders are called managers in the organization, or if they are part of teams.

This stage asks and answers some of these questions: Do we need leadership for agile practices? Why do we need leadership? What’s the role of the team in providing leadership? Can teams succeed without leaders—self-anointed or company-anointed?

Today’s leaders face many challenges where agile can assist. But how do they lead? How do they:

In this stage, you’ll hear from people who’ve led the adoption of agile in their organizations. Others will discuss how they took on leadership roles helping fellow team members follow agile practices. Some will discuss how they’ve led on an agile team, and what they had to do to succeed. You’ll learn numerous approaches to creating great teams and leaders.
